Sergio Romo had tears in his eyes when introduced at AT&T Park early in Monday’s series opener, showing players can be just as emotional as fans about this Giants-Dodgers thing.

Romo is the latest among dozens to play for both sides of the rivalry on the West Coast.

Some made an impact in both San Francisco and Los Angeles, some made an impact in one town and simply passed through the other. Some did little in either.

Taking into account a player’s entire career without caring how much time was spent in the rivalry, here’s an All-Giants-Dodgers team:

Catcher: Gary Carter. A Giant and Dodger well after his prime. Otherwise, lots of Candlestick nostalgia with Tom Haller, Dick Dietz and Brian Johnson, whose 1997 home run went a long way toward burying the Dodgers. Dietz said the Dodgers “can go to hell” in the Giants’ 1971 divisionclinching celebration, and the Dodgers selected him off waivers the following April.

First base: Al Oliver. Maybe the

weakest position. Runners-up: Todd Benzinger and Norm Larker.

Second base: Jeff Kent. Some other good names here: Phil Garner, Ron Hunt, Derrel Thomas, Eric Young.

Shortstop: Daryl Spencer. Another position that’s not deep unless you’re a big fan of Jose Vizcaino and Ryan Theriot.

Third base: Bill Madlock. Juan Uribe and Bill Mueller get some love, and let’s not forget Enos Cabell, Ed Goodson and Cory Snyder.

Left field: Dusty Baker. We also like Jeffrey Leonard and Terry Whitfield. Cody Ross, anyone? Manny Mota, pinch-hitter. Center field: Duke Snider. A Giant in 1964 but moved to a corner because a fellow named Mays patrolled center. Our deepest position with Eric Davis, Brett Butler, Marquis Grissom, Kenny Lofton, Billy North, Darren Lewis, Von Joshua and Dave Roberts.

Right field: Reggie Smith. The nod over Darryl Strawberry even with Smith climbing into the Candlestick crowd to fight a heckler. Others: Steve Finley, Candy Maldonado and Stan Javier.

Rotation: Juan Marichal (all of two games in Dodger blue, a decade after the John Roseboro incident), Orel Hershiser, Jason Schmidt and Wilson Alvarez. We’ll go with four for old times’ sake.

Bullpen: Brian Wilson, Romo. Clean-shaven relievers need not apply.
