3 Huskies DBs in 2nd round

-

Three members of the University of Washington secondary, cornerbacks Kevin King and Sidney Jones and safety Budda Baker, were taken in the first 11 picks of the second round Friday night at the NFL draft.

King was taken by Green Bay as the first selection in the second round. The 6-foot-3 former safety isn’t speedy but has the size and aggressiveness teams seek.

Arizona took Baker three picks later, then the Eagles selected Jones with the 11th pick of the round. Jones tore his Achilles tendon at his pro day and might not be healthy for this season.

Through 107 picks, 28 defensive backs were taken.

Florida State All-America running back Dalvin Cook also went in the second round to Minnesota, slipping because of off-field issues and injury concerns. Cook is a bigplay guy, and the Vikings let go of Adrian Peterson in the offseason.

Cleveland was expected to add a quarterback and did so at No. 52 with Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer. The Browns have started 26 quarterbacks since 1999, when they returned as an expansion team.

The Browns, who had drafted University of Miami tight end David Njoku in the first round Thursday, released tight end Gary Barnidge on Friday. Barnidge, a 2015 Pro Bowler, had 134 catches for 1,655 yards the past two seasons.

The draft wraps up at 9 a.m. Saturday with rounds four to seven.
