Thomas McCormick died at the Mercy Retirement and Care Center in Oakland on April 26, 2017. Thomas, fondly known as “Uncle Tom,” was born in Oakland, began his education at St. Elizabeth Elementary School, and completed grammar school and high school in the Franciscan Seminary, a life of devotion he truly loved. He attended the University of Santa Clara, where he greatly enjoyed church choir. Tom was a committed supporter of his Catholic parish and volunteered as a Lector of Mass—which he attended daily.

“Uncle Tom” was a great lover of the horse races, going on trains, and driving his sports car—often taking nieces and nephews on exciting trips and adventures. He loved visiting family and friends, watching sports, and listening to jazz of the 30’s and 40’s. Tom will be remembered most for his kindness, generosity, gentle spirit, devotion to God, and for his enormous contributions to his siblings, their spouses, and his dozens of nieces and nephews.

Tom was pre-deceased by his parents Eugene and Margaret McCormick, sisters Frances Roberson and Jean Valva, and brothers Bernard, Paul, John and Jerry McCormick. He is survived by two sistersin-law, Patricia McCormick and Peg McCormick, and scores of nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He will be greatly missed.
