Green not Barkley — or anyone else

- By Connor Letourneau Connor Letourneau is a San Francisco Chronicle staff writer.

The parallels are obvious: In addition to both being undersized power forwards, Charles Barkley and Draymond

Green seize any opportunity to talk trash.

Green, however, isn’t a fan of being compared to anyone — even a Hall of Famer.

“Hell, no,” Green said when asked Sunday whether he is the modernday Barkley. “I’m the modern-day Draymond Green.”

As a kid growing up in Saginaw, Mich., Green learned from his mother,

Mary Babers-Green, not to idolize others. Though Green enjoyed watching Michael Jordan and

Shaquille O’Neal, he was careful not to pattern himself after them.

“He wasn’t my role model,” Green said of Barkley. “I grew up in Saginaw, Michigan . ... That’s what you do — you talk, you talk junk during basketball. That’s how I was raised. I was raised in a family like that, so I didn’t need a Charles Barkley to influence me.”

Though he is just entering the prime of his career, Green has started to think about what he would like to do after his playing days are over. His short temper might make it tough for him to coach. Commentating — like Barkley — could be a nice fit.

“Obviously, I think about both of them,” Green said of coaching and commentating. “I don’t know. There’s negatives and positives to both sides. Commentating, you’re not in the fire. Coaching — guys are soft, and that would completely piss me off, trying to coach a soft guy. I don’t know. We’ll see.”

10 years later: The Warriors will honor the 200607 “We Believe” team during Game 1 of the second-round series Tuesday at Oracle Arena.

The celebration will come a day before the 10th anniversary of the Warriors’ Game 6 victory over Dallas on May 3, 2007, when Golden State became the first No. 8 seed to beat a No. 1 seed in a sevengame set. The Warriors have invited every member from that team, and at least 10 are expected to attend, including Baron Davis, Stephen Jackson, Jason Richardson and Monta Ellis. Forward Matt Barnes, re-acquired by the Warriors in March, was on that team. He is probable after missing six games with an ankle injury.
