Bumgarner? No, it’s Blach

Big lefty in Giants uniform tosses seven shutout innings, lines out in first at-bat and then hits go-ahead sacrifice fly. That sounds a bit like Madison Bumgarner. This time, it was his stand-in, Ty Blach.

Bumgarner’s shoulder injury created an opening for Blach, who took advantage Sunday in smothering the Padres at AT&T Park. He relinquished three hits and appeared in control from the outset.

Blach threw 98 pitches. He struck out only one, but he seldom got into trouble and made timely pitches when San Diego did threaten.

“I feel good physically and locked in mentally, just trusting

Buster (Posey) behind the plate,” Blach said. “He understands the hitters so well.”

Sunday’s outing lowered Blach’s ERA from 4.22 to 2.55.

Bullpen help: The Giants moved to bolster their bullpen, purchasing the contract of right-hander Bryan Morris from Triple-A Sacramento.

Morris, 30, has four-plus seasons of major-league experience with the Pirates and Marlins. His record in the majors is 18-12 with a 2.80 ERA.

“Bryan hopefully will bring some depth in this bullpen,” manager Bruce Bochy said. “I think he’s going to help solidify this bullpen in the sixth, seventh inning.”

The Giants created a spot for Morris on the 25-man roster by designating reliever Neil Ramirez for assignment. Ramirez had a 13.06 ERA in nine games. Briefly: Outfielder Denard Span, who hurt his shoulder/ collarbone when he slammed into the wall April 22 in Denver, hopes to resume baseball activities in the next few days. If all goes well, he could leave on a minor-league rehabilitation assignment this week . ... Outfielder Hunter Pence on his team’s anemic offense: “It’s not a big secret: We’ve got to score more runs. We’ve got to get better. I’ve got to get a lot better.” The Giants have 85 runs, second fewest in the majors.
