Raiders’ stadium has tight schedule
A preliminary timeline for the proposed stadium that would be home to the Raiders in Las Vegas shows construction would be finished only three months before the 2020 regular season begins.
The draft of the timeline made public Monday by the Las Vegas Stadium Authority shows construction on the proposed 65,000-seat stadium would begin in January and last 30 months, giving the team three months to get settled.
Members of the board overseeing the $1.9 billion project are expected to discuss the preliminary timeline during their regularly scheduled meeting Thursday. The Raiders did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The NFL’s newest stadium, Minnesota’s U.S. Bank Stadium, took 2½ years to complete and opened in 2016. Raiders’ moves: Oakland signed three undrafted free agents, Faulkner defensive end Chris Casher, Wagner linebacker Najee Harris and Tennessee linebacker LaTroy Lewis.
Casher played three seasons at Florida State and one at Faulkner, an NAIA school in Montgomery, Ala.
The club waived linebacker Dwayne Norman, safety Ahmad Thomas and defensive tackle Jordan Wade. 49ers’ moves: The 49ers signed three players who were invited to last week’s rookie minicamp on a tryout basis and released running back DuJuan Harris and two rookie free agents they signed after the draft to make room on their 90-man roster.
In addition to Harris, the 49ers released wide receiver KD Cannon, signed as an undrafted free agent out of Baylor April 29, and offensive lineman Bret Treadway. The 49ers signed Boise State safety Chanceller James, Georgia Southern wide receiver BJ Johnson III and Connecticut offensive tackle Richard Levy.
With the departure of Harris, 50 of the players on the 90-man roster weren’t with the team Feb. 21.
Harris, 28, re-signed with the 49ers in late March, but became expendable after the team bolstered its runningbacks corps with subsequent moves.
The release of Cannon was unexpected. He reportedly had received a $40,000 signing bonus after he went undrafted. Last year, he had 87 catches, 1,215 yards and 13 touchdowns for Baylor. He finished his career with 195 catches, 3,113 yards and 27 TDs. — Eric Branch Skuta joins Bears: Former 49ers linebacker Dan Skuta has signed a one-year contract with Chicago. Skuta, 31, was released by the Jaguars last month.
