Age 98, born in Iron Belt, Wisconsin. Esther was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Ernie and her sister Frances. She is survived by her sister Florence and her sons, Craig (Pari) and Paul (Cathy Cianciolo). Esther will be missed by her many nieces and nephews, her loving grandchildren Cassidy, Karli (Jeff Robinson) and Matthew (Amber Sanchez) and her great grandchildren Olivia and Lucy.

Esther was born and raised in a small town in northern Wisconsin, the second of three daughters born to Italian immigrant miner Hanibal Rosi and his wife Mary Fosatti. As the mining industry contracted in the area the resourceful Hanibal opened a small grocery store where the girls worked stocking shelves and helping with deliveries.

Esther graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison with a Bachelor of Science degree in Hygiene. Along with her older sister Frances she became a registered nurse and served in the US Army during World War II. After the war she moved to California and met her husband Ernie at an Army dance in Oakland. She worked for 25 years as a school nurse mostly for the Hayward Unified School District.

Upon retirement Esther and Ernie enjoyed bowling, pets, gardening, cooking and family and they loved travelling the globe on their annual trips to some new location. She was a member of the Hill & Valley club in Hayward and bowled in leagues at Earl Anthony’s lanes in Dublin. They were long time residents of both Castro Valley and San Ramon. Esther was a loyal fan on the San Francisco 49ers, Oakland A’s and the Oakland Raiders.

Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers please send contributions in her memory to the charity of your choice.
