-

Tottenham signed out of White Hart Lane with its highest finish in 54 years.

Tottenham locked down second place by beating Manchester United 2-1 in its final game before leaving its north London home of 118 years.

Tottenham’s triumph ended Jose Mourinho’s hopes of United making the top four, leaving three teams chasing the last two Champions League spots: Liverpool, which beat West Ham 4-0 on Sunday, Manchester City and Arsenal.

The three relegation spots also have been filled. Hull joined Sunderland and Middlesbrough in dropping into the second tier after losing 4-0 at Crystal Palace.

Barcelona and Real Madrid won their matches with the Spanish league title race now guaranteed to go to the final round. Neymar scored a hat trick for Barcelona in a 4-1 win at Las Palmas. Cristiano Ronaldo scored two goals for Madrid in a 4-1 home victory over Sevilla.

Monaco beat Lille 4-0 to all but seal the French title. Paris Saint-Germain needs a Monaco collapse in order to defend its title.

In NASL, Cristian Portilla goal in the 89th minute lifted the SF Deltas to a 1-0 victory at FC Edmonton.

In MLS, Romain Alessandrini scored two goals as the Los Angeles Galaxy beat New York 3-1, ending the Red Bulls’ 19-game home unbeaten streak . ... Defender Liam Ridgewell scored the equalizer for host Portland some four minutes after Atlanta went ahead and the Timbers settled for a 1-1 draw with the United . ... Thomas McNamara scored in the 68th minute as host New York City FC rallied to tie Dallas 1-1. Motor sports: Lewis Hamilton beat Sebastian Vettel to win the Spanish Grand Prix near Barcelona, tightening Formula One’s intense title fight.

Vettel edged past Hamilton, the pole-sitter, at the first corner, but the British driver overtook Vettel’s Ferrari with more than 20 laps left.

Hamilton’s second win in five races this season cut Vettel’s lead from 13 points to six.

Obituary: Former American League umpire Steve Palermo, whose career ended when he was shot trying to break up a robbery in 1991, has died in Kansas City, Mo., at 67. The Kansas City Star reported cancer as his cause of death.

Palermo broke into the majors late in the 1976 season and worked the 1983 World Series, several playoff series and the All-Star Game. He drew praise from players, managers and fellow umpires for his work.

In July 1991, Palermo was having a late-night meal in Dallas when two servers were mugged. Palermo chased the attackers and was shot, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. Palermo eventually was able to walk, with the help of cane. He later became an umpire supervisor for MLB.
