A police chase in Concord on Saturday ended in the death of a 24-year-old Pittsburg woman who was the passenger in a stolen vehicle being pursued by police, according to the Clayton Police Department.

The chase began around 3 p.m. when Clayton police officers were dispatched to a report of a woman looking into vehicles at the Clayton Station Shopping Center. The woman was seen leaving their area after getting into a white sport utility vehicle that had been reported stolen from Oakley on May 3.

Clayton police officers attempted to make a traffic stop, but the woman evaded the officers, police said, driving 80 mph down Myrtle Drive near Ayers Road. She lost control and drove through a yard at the 4900 block of Myrtle Drive, damaging a wall and a large tree.

Local television stations reported Saturday that the crash occurred outside the Myrtle Farm Montessori school, but a spokeswoman for the Concord Police Department declined to confirm the location.

Police have identified the driver as Amy Fiasconaro of Antioch. Fiasconaro was treated at a nearby hospital for injuries. The name of the passenger is being withheld until next of kin can be notified.

Fiasconaro was arrested on charges of theft of a vehicle, felony evading and vehicular manslaughter.
