Earthquake­s draw with Orlando FC

Carlos Rivas scored in the 80th minute for Orlando City FC, but Chris Wondolowsk­i tied it three minutes later for the host Earthquake­s as the clubs played to a 1-1 draw Wednesday night.

After receiving a caroming corner kick at the top of the box, Tommy Thompson found Wondolowsk­i near the left goal post for the tying score. It was Wondolowsk­i’s fifth goal of the season for San Jose (4-4-4).

Rivas’ second goal of the season for Orlando City (6-3-2) was assisted by Victor Pagliari Giro and Kaka.

Kaka later broke free for a final scoring chance for Orlando City in the 90th minute, but San Jose goalkeeper David Bingham made the save to preserve the draw.

Gerso Fernandes scored three second-half goals in 13 minutes, Tim Melia had his seventh shutout and host Sporting Kansas City beat the Seattle Sounders 3-0 to take sole possession of first place in the Western Conference of MLS.

Cristiano Ronaldo took Real Madrid to the verge of its first Spanish league title in five years, scoring early in each half as Madrid defeated 10-man Celta Vigo 4-1. Madrid retook the league lead from Barcelona and moved within a point of winning the title.

Monaco sealed its first French title since 2000 and an eighth overall with a 2-0 win over SaintEtien­ne. With one match left to play this weekend, Monaco has an unassailab­le six-point lead over second-place Paris SaintGerma­in, the defending champion.

Juventus won the Italian Cup, defeating Lazio 2-0 in the final.

Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero saved an early penalty and made several other big stops in a 0-0 draw at Southampto­n in the English Premier League.

Tom Heinemann scored in the 63rd minute to help the San Francisco Deltas edge Burlingame Dragons FC 2-1 in the second round of the U.S. Open Cup. Reiner Ferreira also scored for the North American Soccer League’s Deltas. Jamael Cox opened the scoring at Stanford’s Cagan Stadium, connecting in the 29th minute for the Premier Developmen­t League’s Dragons. San Francisco moves on to the third-round of the 104year-old multi-league national tournament May 31.
