March 16, 1933 - April 23, 2017

Native San Franciscan Stan Ozaki died at home at the age of 84. Stan lived all his life in the city except during World War II when his family was imprisoned with fellow Japanese Americans in Amache, Colo. He attended Edison Elementary, John Swett Jr. High and Polytechnic High where he was a star halfback, captain of the football team, president of the Block P Society. After earning a BS from USF in 1955, he served in the Army at the Nike Missile site in Danvers, Mass. In 1992 he retired from a 34year accounting career with the City of San Francisco. Stan was a natural athlete, loved and played in many sports, including bowling and golf in later years. Reserved, unassuming, surprising many with a dry sense of humor, Stan was a gentle man, always confident, comfortable, secure with who he was. He had a long, wonderful, eventful life, and despite adversities always kept a positive focus on the importance of life at hand. Preceded in death by parents Yoshio and Toshiyo Ozaki, first wife, the former Betty Nakatani, and stepson Corby Shinomiya. Survived by his wife of 23 years, Yaeko, stepdaughter Coco Gorodetsky (Eddie), siblings Tom Ozaki (Anita), Nancy Ozaki, and many nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be for immediate family. A celebration of Stan’s life will be held in July. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
