Brewers question call for postponed game

-

After the scheduled BrewersCubs game in Chicago was postponed Saturday, members of Milwaukee’s contingent had a question: Why?

The game was called off two hours before game time. The rain stopped roughly an hour before the scheduled 1:20 p.m. CDT start and it remained dry the rest of the day.

“It’s the first time for us we had players treated for sunburn after a rainout,” Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell joked Sunday afternoon.

The home team decides whether a game is played or postponed up until first pitch.

“They told us that their weather forecast indicated our game was not going to be able to be played,” Milwaukee general manager David Stearns said of the Cubs. “Our weather forecast didn’t indicate that.”

The game has been rescheduled for July 6. Fister’s deal: Doug Fister, who agreed to a one-year, $1.75 million deal with the Angels on Saturday, will report to extended spring training in Arizona to begin workouts, the team said.

The right-hander, who was 12-13 with a 4.64 ERA in 32 starts for the Astros last year, provides depth for a rotation that has lost Garrett Richards, Tyler Skaggs, Andrew Heaney and Nick Tropeano to injuries. Briefly: The Astros placed catcher Brian McCann on the seven-day concussion disabled list and recalled catcher Juan Centeño from Triple-A Fresno. ... The Diamondbacks activated left-hander T.J. McFarland from the DL and placed right-hander Taijuan Walker on the DL because of a blister on his right index finger . ... Dodgers lefthander Julio Urias, who allowed seven runs in 21⁄3 innings Saturday, was sent to Triple-A Oklahoma City . ... Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward was activated from the disabled list . ... The Braves sent infielder John Camargo to Triple-A Gwinnett to clear a roster spot for first baseman Matt Adams, who was acquired from the Cardinals on Saturday . ... Baltimore infielder Ryan Flaherty went on the DL with right shoulder inflammation and infielder Paul Janish was recalled from Triple-A.
