Joseph “Joe” Francis Finnigan

-

Joseph “Joe” Francis Finnigan, 65, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2017.

Joe was born June 6, 1952 in San Francisco to Dennis and Mary (Kennedy) Finnigan. He married Caterina (Sanzone) Finnigan on July 21, 1979.

Joe worked as a police officer for over 40 years. He spent 34 years with the San Francisco Police Department, 2 years with the Fairfield Police Department, and 5 combined years with the Solano Community College Police Department and Solano County Sheriff’s Department.

Joe believed working in the “spirit of the law” and was a strong proponent of community policing. He was a peace officer in the truest sense and always wanted to assist visitors and local San Franciscans in any way. He handed out clothing to local children, he would help people secure jobs, and he was a friend to all. He was a dedicated police officer and would always rise to the occasion when anyone needed his help.

When Joe was not at work, he enjoyed taking his dog to the Suisun marsh, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle with his wife, and spending quality time with his children and grandchildren. Joe used to coach his eldest son, Joey’s, football and baseball teams and he would always make sure all the players had equipment. He knew the importance of education and sent his children to college by working overtime and part-time jobs to make ends meet. He was known in the community and by his family as the kind of person who would drop any personal engagements to lend a hand.

Joe’s loss is tragic but we can take comfort in knowing he is is reunited with his first-born son, Joseph “Joey” Francis Finnigan Jr., who was taken from this earth far too soon.

He is survived by his wife, Caterina Finnigan; daughter and son-in-law Angela and Brian Loeb; daughters Andrea, Christine and Kathleen Finnigan, and son Patrick Finnigan; granddaughters Penny, Charlotte, and Norah Loeb; and grandson Henry Loeb.

Services will be held at 10:30a.m. Friday, June 23, 2017, at Saint Andrews Catholic Church in Daly City and interment will be at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma, CA.
