Kate (McKimmins) Hiscox was born 22 December 1932 in Berkeley, California, to Dr. Mark McKimmins and Alice (Pedersen) McKimmins. She had two older brothers, Mark and Frank. Her father, Mark, was in the Army so she lived several places growing up before the family settled in Berkeley after WWII. She graduated from Berkeley High School, then continued her studies at the UC Berkeley.

Kate married Richard P. Hiscox in December 1951 and they raised seven children together in Richmond, California. As the children got older, Kate entered the work force, managing a dry cleaners before moving on to manage a popular restaurant in Berkeley. Kate had a gift for making friends wherever she worked and many of those friends stayed in touch long after she retired.

She had a love for horses and horseback riding that she passed on to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also loved sewing and continued to create clothes and quilts that are treasured by her family.

Most recently, Kate lived in Rodeo, CA, and split her time between her family and friends.

Kate is preceded in death by her father, Dr. Mark McKimmins; her mother, Alice McKimmins; her brother, Mark McKimmins Jr.; her husband, Richard P. Hiscox; and her sons, John A. Hiscox and James A. Hiscox.

Kate is survived by her brother, Frank McKimmins (Jerri); her children: Phil Hiscox, Julie Hiscox (Richard Tuyls), Roger Hiscox (Brad Robinson), Ted Hiscox (Derek Barnes), Keith Hiscox (Michelle), and Beth Self; her grandchildren: Kristin Self (Mitch Moreno), Mark Hiscox (Whittni), Jordan Hiscox, and Melissa Hiscox; and her great-grandchildren: Leah, Victoria and Alexa Moreno.
