KNUCKLEHEAD OF THE WEEK
The Home Run Derby roster is selected behind closed doors, using secret criteria, producing unfair and controversial results. What do they think this is, a health care bill? A’s left fielder Khris Davis and Rays’ first baseman Logan Morrison were snubbed, though their 24 homers each ranked them fifth in the big leagues through Friday. Gary Sanchez of the Yankees was invited, with his adorable 13 homers. Brandon Belt has 16, yet there was very little clamor for him to be invited. Could it have something to do with Sanchez playing in the juicy New York TV market? We need Bud Selig to explain the selection system. He would haul out the proclamation he uttered every year to explain away his dithering and delaying of a new ballpark for the A’s: “It’s complicated.”
