THIS WEEK
Upstart Oakland-based theater company Ubuntu Theater Project continues its commitment to bold new work with its latest piece, a workshop production of “This Land Was Made.” Written by Tori Sampson and directed by William Hodgson, the show paints a textured cityscape of 1967 Oakland as it tells the story of Black Panthers co-founder Huey P. Newton, in the lead-up to the killing of police Officer John Frey.
Friday, July 14-Aug. 6. $15-$45. Brooklyn Preserve, 1433 12th Ave., Oakland. www.ubuntutheaterproject. com
