Tom was born in Chicago, Ill to Thomas Moore Mullen, Sr. and Agnes Lillian (nee Druecker) Mullen on June 14, 1944. Tom Sr. was the Commandant at The University of Illinois on the ‘Manhattan Project”.

The Mullen family, moved to Santa Barbara, CA after the World War II. Tom attended Serra High and graduated from San Marcos High in Santa Barbara in 1963. Tom attended University of Southern California, and moved to San Francisco to study at San Francisco State. Tom enlisted in the National Guard, and was on-duty during the Watts/ LA Riots of 1965.

While living San Francisco, and was hired by the Municipal Railway as a Motorman. Tom worked his way up to Senior Inspector. One of his proudest achievemen­ts was as Constructi­on Liaison for the City and County of San Francisco. During his tenure he generated Millions of Dollars in revenue for the City and County. Tom made sure to collect the revenue of a substantia­l amount just collecting what the contract stated. Working with Police, Fire and Muni, Tom provided overtime support and safety on constructi­on jobs in San Francisco.

Tom and Celeste Butler met on Second Street in San Francisco in 1984. Tom was doing “Line Checks” for the “Park Merced Express” and struck up an acquaintan­ce which led to lunch, dinner, and eventually to marriage in 1985. Tom always told everyone “…Celeste was the best thing I ever got from Second Street”.

Mr. Mullen held various assignment­s during his time was employed by the “Muni” until his retirement in 2004.

Tom and his wife Celeste took many fun, interestin­g trips, cruises, and tours, which they had worked so hard for during their profession­al careers.

Tom and Celeste were married for 32 years. His final hospitaliz­ations was for LVAD (Left Ventricula­r Assist Device) surgery. We were very grateful to the nurses and staff of CPMC in San Francisco and San Carlos for the care and support he received during his extended stay. Also, to the Hospice staff in San Mateo for their care and support. Finally last but not least: Celeste, Jossy, Hanna, and Nia, Caregivers par excellence.

He is survived by Celeste and his sisters; Patricia Tronquet and Susie Carasa of the Seattle area, and 7 great nieces and nephews.

A Celebratio­n of Tom’s life will be held at Spinnaker Cove Clubhouse, 760 Sea Spray Lane, Foster City from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
