CHICAGO — In the season’s final three weeks, Jarrett

Parker hopes to build momentum for the offseason and 2018. It has been a tough year for the outfielder, who missed 96 games with a fractured clavicle and another week with an oblique strain.

Parker returned to the lineup Sunday and homered in his first at-bat, giving the Giants their lone run.

“This is the first year I ever had injuries,” Parker said. “All I want to do is to be able to play healthy.”

Manager Bruce Bochy considered letting pitcher Madison Bumgarner hit for himself instead of using a designated hitter, as he did last season in Oakland when Bumgarner hit a double and got the win.

When it became clear Parker was able to play but not defend — he’s not throwing at full strength — Bochy went with him as DH.

“I felt good,” Parker said. “It’s always nice to drive the ball well like that.”

Hopes, prayers: Denard

Span spoke with his mother before boarding the team flight to San Francisco. She lives in Tampa, Fla., not far from his home, an area in the path of Hurricane Irma.

“I’ve never experienced anything like this as far as a hurricane,” Span said. “As a kid, we had some hurricane scares. It would always make a turn and not come through Tampa.”

Briefly: Bumgarner was outpitched by rookie Carson Fulmer (one run in six innings), who told Chicago newspapers that he looks up to the lefthander. “I respect guys who take care of business. That’s how I model myself, being competitive, being a good teammate and making sure I give it everything I have each time I step on the mound. That’s what Bumgarner does . ... Having the opportunity to pitch against him is something special.” ... The Giants lost five straight series and are 0-9-1 in their past 10 road series . ... Pablo Sandoval is in a 1-for-47 mess. He’s hitless in seven at-bats since Friday’s home run broke his 0-for-39 slump . ... Joe Panik went 1for-9 in Chicago after his 12 hits in Colorado set a franchise record for a three-game series. ... Buster Posey is hitting .417 during a 10-game hit streak.
