Tennessee adds QB Weeden
The Tennessee Titans are adding Brandon Weeden to the roster as a third quarterback with Marcus Mariota recovering from a strained hamstring.
Head coach Mike Mularkey says Mariota is day to day after hurting his hamstring in a 57-14 loss to the Texans on Sunday.
Matt Cassel is Mariota’s backup. Weeden has started 25 of his 34 NFL games, but for three different teams: Cleveland, Dallas and Houston. The Texans released him Sept. 2 in their final cuts. He has thrown for 6,452 yards with 31 touchdowns and 30 interceptions.
Before landing on Weeden, the Titans reportedly looked into signing Matt Barkley, Matt McGloin or T.J. Yates. Former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick remains unsigned. Suspension reduced: The NFL has reduced Chicago linebacker Danny Trevathan’s suspension for a helmet-tohelmet hit on Green Bay receiver Davante Adams from two games to one.
Adams was taken off the field on a stretcher in the third quarter Thursday night after getting hit in the head during a tackle by Trevathan. The game was delayed for about five minutes while medical personnel tended to Adams. Trevathan was called for an unnecessary-roughness penalty but was not ejected.
Adams tweeted Friday that he was at home and “feeling great.” Tomlin on Brown: Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin mildly chastised receiver Antonio Brown for a brief sideline eruption during Sunday’s 26-9 victory over Baltimore, when Brown took his frustrations out on a water cooler after quarterback Ben Roethlisberger failed to see him running free down the sideline in the second quarter.
“AB is a competitor,” Tomlin said. “He has to control it. If he doesn’t, it can work against him and it can work against us.” Injuries: Green Bay running back Ty Montgomery will prepare as if he will play Sunday against the Cowboys, though his broken ribs might keep him out.
