Hernandez lawyers shift CTE lawsuit

-

Lawyers for late New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez have refiled a lawsuit against the NFL.

The attorneys filed a federal lawsuit last month after Hernandez had killed himself in prison and an autopsy had revealed he had chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease found in people who have suffered repetitive brain trauma such as concussions.

The new lawsuit was filed Monday in Massachusetts’ state court, where the attorneys say they can make more claims.

Hernandez’s lawyers accuse the NFL of hiding the dangers of football. They’re seeking damages for Hernandez’s daughter. WNBA: Katie Smith is the new head coach of the New York Liberty.

Smith has been an assistant with the Liberty since she retired from the WNBA in 2013. She was promoted to associate head coach in 2016. She is replacing Bill Laimbeer, who was the Liberty’s head coach from 2013 through ’17.

A person with knowledge of the move said Laimbeer left to become head coach and general manager with the San Antonio Stars after they are sold and relocated. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because no official announcement has been made. Olympics: Salt Lake City is forming an exploratory committee to decide whether the city will bid to host the Winter Olympics in 2026 or 2030.

The group said it will decide by Feb. 1. The city hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics.

The bidding process for the 2026 Winter Olympics starts next year with hosting rights to be awarded in July 2019. Denver and Reno also might have interest.
