Josephine R. Sorini left us peacefully Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 18, at St. Francis Hospital at the age of 94. Jessie was born on the Island of Sicily, January 8, 1923, moving to the U.S. with her parents as a toddler, arriving at Ellis Island. The family took up residence in San Francisco shortly thereafter. Jessie grew up on Hyde St. between Bay and North Point, in a home retained by the family until her passing. Jessie graduated from Galileo High School and married Tony Sabella, from down the street, with whom she had three children. She later re-married, to Lewis Sorini, and relocated for a time to Boise, Idaho with her two daughters, but later returned to the family home on Hyde St., where she lived until she left us.

Jessie was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Salvatore Sabella, her sister Madeleine Scuderi, her first husband, Tony Sabella, her brother Michael Scuderi, and her husband Lew Sorini.

She is survived by her two daughters, Joanne Sabella, Lauretta Sabella-Wright, step son and step daughter, Michael Sorini and Betty Lou Sorini, grand children, Salvatore Sabella, Michael Wright, Maxx Sabella Arnold, Casey Sorini and sister Shannon Peck, son-in-law Wally Wright and favorite ex-son-in-law, Gregory Arnold, along with sister-inlaw Jennie Tompkins.

While in Idaho, Jessie volunteered for 14 years at the Boise Valley Sunset Home, and after returning to San Francisco began volunteering at the St. Francis Hospital Attic Shop in 1991. She belonged to the S.F. Breakfast Club and was also a member of the Pacific Heights AARP and I.C.F.

Jessie has chosen to be cremated. Services are being held at St. Cecelia’s Chapel on Oct. 24, at 11:00 AM, 2555 17th. Ave., S.F., with a reception immediately thereafter at 1:00 PM, at the Italian Club, located at 1630 Stockton St., S.F.

A special thank you from the family to Janice Corn, a long time family friend, who looked after and helped Jessie over the last 2 1/2 years along side daughter Joanne.
