Edward Francis Winthers, 95 years old, died peacefully at home in Apple Valley, California, with his wife by his side. Edward is survived by his beloved wife of 74 years, Beverly Jean Winthers, and his two children, Daniel John Winthers and Laurie Jean Winthers; his third child, Mark Edward Winthers, passed away earlier. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Susan Patricia Winthers, and his son- in- law, Lawrence Jackson Laslett. Edward had eight grandchildren and their spouses, and eleven great grandchildren with 2 more on the way. His first love was his family. He lived a wonderful and honorable life and was loved by all who knew him.

Edward was born in Berkeley California. He attended Berkeley High School and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, on the GI Bill following his service as a 1st lieutenant in the Army Air Core as a pilot in the South Pacific during WWII. Edward was a general contractor in the Bay Area, as CEO of James E. Roberts-Obayashi Corporation until 1986. He and Bev raised their family in Orinda, California. They then moved to Silverado in Napa, California, where they enjoyed golfing, traveling to every state in the union and almost every country, and following the Bay Area sports teams with a fervor. He was among the first group of the fantasy sports leagues and spent many years enjoying this with his son Dan.

He and Bev finally settled in Apple Valley, California. He was buried at Oakmont Cemetery in Lafayette, California, near his grandson Dave. Edward will be missed dearly by all those who loved him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
