19 newcomers on Hall ballot

Chipper Jones, Jim Thome and former Giants infielders Omar Vizquel and Jeff Kent are among 19 first-time candidates on the Hall of Fame ballot announced Monday. Trevor Hoffman, who fell five votes short last year, and Barry Bonds lead the holdovers.

Also on the ballot: Chris Carpenter, Roger Clemens, Johnny Damon, Vladimir Guerrero, Livan Hernandez, Orlando Hudson, Aubrey Huff, Jason Isringhaus­en, Andruw Jones, Carlos Lee, Brad Lidge, Edgar Martinez, Hideki Matsui, Fred McGriff, Kevin Millwood, Jamie Moyer, Mike Mussina, Manny Ramirez, Scott Rolen, Johan Santana, Curt Schilling, Gary Sheffield, Sammy Sosa, Billy Wagner, Larry Walker, Kerry Wood and Carlos Zambrano.

In moves to prepare for the Rule 5 draft, the Giants added four to their 40-man roster: righthande­rs Tyler Beede (top pick in 2014) and Tyler Herb (acquired from Seattle this year), 6-foot-7 left-hander D.J. Snelton and catching prospect Aramis Garcia. The team outrighted pitcher Dan Slania to Triple-A Sacramento and designated for assignment infielder Micah Johnson and outfielder Orlando Calixte.

The A’s designated for assignment outfielder Jaycob Brugman as part of their Rule 5-protection moves. Brugman played in 48 games as a rookie and hit .266. The A’s also designated left-hander Sam Moll. They added right-handers Heath Fillmyer and Lou Trivino to their 40-man roster. Oakland also acquired minorleagu­e outfielder Ramon Laureano from Houston for pitcher Brandon Bailey. The A’s outrighted reliever Bobby Wahl to Triple-A.
