Stanley Walsh Miller

Stanley Walsh Miller passed away May 24, 2016 of natural causes at his home in Novato, CA. He was born July 14, 1928 to Elizabeth Walsh and Manning Adair Miller in Grass Valley, CA, and grew up in San Francisco. He attended Columbus Elementary, graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School, and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administra­tion from University of California Berkeley in 1950. During college, he participat­ed in the ROTC program and was President of his fraternity, Lambda Chi Alpha. He worked for Alexander & Baldwin Co. before dutifully serving in the US Army from 1951-1952 in Germany. His final rank was 1st Lieutenant. In 1957, he married his beloved wife of 50 years, Josephine “Jo” Lenz from Richmond, CA, who preceded him in death in 2007. He started his 32-year career with Ford/ Lincoln-Mercury in 1953, retiring in 1985 after a successful Executive Sales & Marketing Management career. Due to his career, he and his family moved several times, residing in California, Oklahoma, and Michigan. His final relocation in 1979 brought them back home to the Bay Area, settling in Novato, CA in Marin county. He & Jo enjoyed rooting for their Cal Bears team at Saturday home football games. He was an avid runner, sports enthusiast, especially the SF Giants and 49ers, and had a passion for fishing. He enjoyed several trips to Maui, a former ancestral home, to golf and vacation. He is survived by his devoted children who adored him: Paul (Leonore) Miller, Jody (Ed) Carlson, William (Nelse) Miller, and Stephen (Susanna) Miller. His son, Stanley Walsh Miller, Jr, preceded him in death shortly after birth in 1963. He leaves his loving grandchild­ren: Whitney Carlson (Simon) Roberts, Emily Carlson, Siena, Aaron, Galen, Carson, Wesley, and Ward Miller. He also leaves new great grandson, Luke Roberts. Stan was a wonderful person who gave his all to his family. He is greatly missed! His brother, Adair Miller, brothers-in-law, Jack St. Martin and Richard Lenz, and sister-in-law, Nada Lenz, also preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Betty St. Martin, and several nieces and nephews. His family and friends celebrated him and his life at a memorial on August 12, 2017 in San Francisco.
