Home built by legendary mind
Henry Gutterson designed the 6-bedroom home
John Aexel became smitten with 80 San Fernando Way the first time he entered the home in St. Francis Wood.
“As soon as I opened the door, I was amazed by the architecture,” said Aexel, who has owned the six-bedroom since 2006.
Built by Henry Gutterson in 1920, the home served as the legendary architect’s personal residence. Only three families have lived here since its construction, and Aexel said it’s an ideal family home thanks to its large dimensions and ample number of bedrooms.
“Whoever buys this house is going to enjoy it,” he said.
Set on a double lot occupying nearly a third of an acre, the home offers three levels and more than 4,400 square feet of living space.
The home opens to a generous foyer measuring 14 feet wide and 19 feet long. Wide moldings and gallery walls highlight the space that segues to both the living and dining rooms.
A fireplace with stone surround anchors the living room, and the space steps out to a brick terrace with a pergola. The dining room easily accommodates 10 people and features an antique chandelier that illuminates the room.
A kitchen with dual ovens, marble counters and an induction cooktop stands opposite the dining room. The kitchen also offers a breakfast area and a butler’s pantry with built-in storage.
Both the living and dining rooms link to a sunroom that opens to the rear patio and landscaped garden. Northfacing floor-to-ceiling windows frame views of the landscape and welcome sunlight into the room.
Four bedrooms — including a master suite with windows on its western and southern sides — occupy an upper level. The potential for a rooftop terrace exists, as do opportunities for personalizing the home’s bathrooms. A bonus room rounds out the top floor.
The lower level contains an office/bedroom, a full bathroom, and multiple storage spaces, as well as the home’s laundry area.
Currently available offmarket, the home is priced at $5.2 million. Learn more at www.80sanfernandoway.com.
