A judge in Maricopa County, Ariz., set an April 10 trial date for A’s catcher Bruce Maxwell, who is charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and disorderly conduct for allegedly pointing a gun a food delivery driver, court records show.

If a trial occurred then, Maxwell would miss part of the baseball season, but more pretrial hearings are planned, the next one Jan. 29, with the possibility for a plea agreement.

Maxwell, 27, was arrested Oct. 28 after the alleged incident at his Scottsdale, Ariz., home.

The A’s have said they expect Maxwell to report to spring training with the rest of the team in February.

— Henry Schulman A photographer accused Minnesota Twins third baseman Miguel Sano of assaulting her after a 2015 autograph session.

Betsy Bissen, who works for publications including TwinsDaily, said she feared telling her story would cost her access to photograph Twins games. Sano denied any assault. “I have the utmost respect for women, especially those working in professional sports,” Sano told TMZ. “I deeply sympathize with anyone who has experienced sexual harassment. There is no place for it in our society.”

Major League Baseball has begun an investigation, said spokesman Pat Courtney.

Bissen wrote that Sano was participating in an autograph signing at a store where she worked as a volunteer. She said he commented that he had noticed her during games and tried to flirt with her. After the signing, she wrote, he decided to visit another store and grabbed her wrist and made her go with a small group.

As the group left the mall later, she wrote, Sano said he needed to use the restroom. She said he tried to pull her through a door and, as she resisted, tried to kiss her.

“Every time I have to hear about how great people think Miguel Sano is, I’m reminded of how awful he actually is and how he hurt me,” she wrote.

Bissen didn’t respond to an interview request from the Associated Press.
