A 39-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in Santa Rosa on charges of attempted murder, after allegedly stabbing another man in the neck while both were eating separately in a restaurant last week.

The man arrested was Eulalio Miniz Orozco, who has lived in Santa Rosa for two months, Santa Rosa Police said. He was detained without incident around 7 p.m., and police searched the residence where he was believed to be staying. He later was booked into Sonoma County Jail.

This follows a brutal stabbing that happened over dinner.

As seen on a surveillance video at the restaurant, on the evening of Dec. 21, two men were sitting at separate tables and eating at Lola’s Market. They did not speak to each other throughout their meals. Apparently without provocation, one of the men stood up and the other in the neck, then fled the scene. The victim, a 61-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He remained in the hospital Thursday and his condition was upgraded to stable.

Police launched an investigation, even offering a $2,500 reward through the Sonoma County Alliance Take Back Our Community program. They released a description of the suspect, taken from the restaurant video.

Based on leads, which police said were “developed from civilian personnel within the police department and from the community’s response to our earlier media release requesting assistance,” they identified Orozco as the susstabbed pect. Police said he went by several aliases, including Ricardo Romero Velazquez.

Police said they do not yet know the motive for the stabbing, and the investigation is continuing.
