In a week when pot became legal and stocks got very high, this also happened:

A restructuring of San Mateo’s GoPro apparently will lead to dismissing more than 200 workers. TechCrunch reported that most layoffs are in the aerial division, responsible for the Karma drone.

So a homeowner in Seven Hills, Ohio, used Airbnb to rent out a room for $40 a night. Great idea — normally. But the renter was anything but normal. He threw a huge New Year’s party, charging people $5 apiece. The homeowner locked himself in his bedroom and called police as the party spiraled out of control. When officers showed up, there were about 250 people inside the home, some vomiting, some breaking windows.

Iceland now requires all companies to prove that their wage practices don’t discriminate against women. Other countries might have equal-salary policies, but Iceland is believed to be the first to make it mandatory for both private and public firms.

In-N-Out Burger’s menu rarely changes — except maybe in the case of Ghirardelli chocolate. The Orange County Register reported that the burger chain has added Ghirardelli’s hot chocolate to its menu.

China suspended the production of more than 500 car models that do not meet its fuel economy standards, meaning that it may be getting more serious about air pollution. The country has dozens of small-scale automakers — some producing just a few hundred cars a year — and the central government has tried to consolidate its auto industry, a factor that most likely also played a role in the suspension. Charity begins in sports: The Andy & Jordan Dalton Foundation, which helps seriously ill and physically challenged children and their families in Cincinnati and Fort Worth, got around $300,000 in donations for the week, thanks largely to a social media campaign by people in Buffalo. Why: Quarterback Andy Dalton, left, was good at his job last Sunday, leading the Cincinnati Bengals to a win over the Baltimore Ravens, which allowed the Buffalo Bills to make the NFL playoffs for the first time since Bill Clinton was president.
