Evelyn Dolores Stachnick

-

Evelyn Dolores Stachnick, 95, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2018, at her home in San Francisco, bringing to a grand finale the eldest generation of the Toboni Family.

A native lifelong San Franciscan, she was born to parents Mary and Louis Toboni in 1922. She lived her entire life in the Outer Excelsior district and graduated from Balboa High School.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years, Art Stachnick, and sisters Kay Nolan and Mel Loomis. She is survived by her son Greg Stachnick and his wife Isabelle; her two grandsons, Greg Stachnick, Jr. and his wife Jessica Liu, and John Stachnick and his wife Susan Lam; and the newest member of the family, her five-month-old great-granddaughter Lucy Lam Stachnick. She is also survived by nephews Ken Messenger, Fred Stachnick and many cousins.

Evie, as she was known, was always a very kind and generous person. For many years her job was housewife and mother. She later expanded her role to that of helper and caregiver to her sisters, other family members and neighbors, helping them through their end-of life struggles. Together with her husband, they took care by shopping, taking them to medical appointments, and by cooking and bringing them evening meals each day. Always very giving, both Evelyn and Art insisted on taking nothing in return.

When a fall made it clear that Evie’s role would change from caregiver to care receiver, we had the good fortune to meet Ane Palepaleiua, who became her full-time caregiver, close friend and new family member to us all. Evie continued to be a gracious host, offering coffee and sweets to all that came by to visit.

Visitation will be held Monday, Feb. 5, beginning at 3pm, with a Rosary Service at 6pm, at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City.

Funeral Mass will take place Tuesday, Feb. 6, departing Duggan’s Serra Mortuary at 10:30am for an 11:00am Mass at Church of the Epiphany, 827 Vienna Street, San Francisco. Mass is followed by procession to interment at the Italian Cemetery, Colma. Upon conclusion of the services, a Celebration of Life luncheon follows at Joe’s of Westlake.
