If You Like It rose as high as the $32,000 claiming level and was second to Mended in her most recent race, June 17. Friday’s race is a 1-mile starter allowance restricted to fillies and mares that started for a claiming price of $4,000 or less in 2016-18. … Nomination­s close Thursday for the $50,000-added California Oaks for 3-year-old fillies Feb. 10. Hollendorf­er’s top Kentucky Derby hopeful, Instilled Regard, returns to the Fair Grounds for the Risen Star Stakes on Feb. 17. Instilled Regard easily won the Lecomte Stakes at the New Orleans track Jan. 13. California Derby winner Choo Choo will run in either the El Camino Real Derby on Feb. 17 at Golden Gate Fields or the Southwest Stakes on Feb. 19 at Oaklawn Park. … Trainer William E. Morey’s hot streak at Santa Anita continued last week, highlighte­d by Rye’s win in the $200,345 Unusual Heat Turf Classic. It was the richest victory ever for Morey, who has won with nine of 15 starters at the meeting. “I’ve had some runs at Golden Gate, Bay Meadows and the fairs but nothing like this in a venue against competitio­n like this,” Morey said. Morey has 15 horses at Santa Anita and 25 at Golden Gate Fields. “I’ve lately been spending more of the race days in the south and the non-race days at Golden Gate,” he said.
