Jesse Jackson defends LeBron
The Rev. Jesse Jackson said he’s deeply insulted by a Fox News host’s “attack” on Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James and thanked the All-Star for standing up for his beliefs.
Political commentator Laura Ingraham criticized the threetime NBA champion for his recent comments about social issues, suggesting he should “shut up and dribble.” James has vowed he won’t do that, saying he’ll continue to “talk about what’s really important.”
Jackson said it’s important for James, Warriors Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry and other NBA players to keep speaking about injustice and the behavior of President Trump. Soccer: Manchester City’s pursuit of a quadruple ended when it was surprisingly eliminated from the FA Cup by a 1-0 loss at third-division Wigan.
Wigan beat City in the 2013 FA Cup final, and this time, Will Grigg’s late goal was enough for the League One side to pull off another upset in the fifth round. It faces Southampton next in the quarterfinals.
City was forced to play the entire second half with 10 men after left back Fabian Delph was red-carded just before halftime for a tackle of Max Power.
The incident led to City manager Pep Guardiola and Wigan counterpart Paul Cook exchanging words on the touchline and in the tunnel at halftime. College football: Baker Mayfield doesn’t like comparisons to Johnny Manziel, although the Heisman Trophy winner from Oklahoma wasn’t surprised by them after an arrest and other antics while with the Sooners.
At a stop in his home state of Texas to accept the Davey O’Brien Award as the nation’s top quarterback, Mayfield said he and Manziel were “two completely different people.”
After an offseason arrest for public intoxication and disorderly conduct, Mayfield planted an OU flag at midfield after a win at Ohio State. He made a lewd gesture toward the Kansas sideline after the Jayhawks refused to shake his hand before the coin flip.
