Ionescu takes over in OT, leads Oregon past UCLA

Sabrina Ionescu scored seven of her 23 points in overtime and No. 8 Oregon outlasted No. 10 UCLA 101-94 on Monday night in Eugene.

Ionescu added 12 assists for the Ducks (25-4, 14-2 Pac-12). Oregon’s 14th conference win matched its best from 19992000 when it won the Pac-10 title.

Oregon built a huge first-half lead before UCLA rallied while holding the Ducks without a field goal for the final 6:18 of regulation. With the game tied at 90, the Bruins had a chance for the win in regulation, but they missed a layup just before the buzzer.

Satou Sabally led the Ducks with 25 points on seven threepoint­ers, and Maite Cazorla had 24 points and seven assists. Cazorla also hit seven threepoint­ers and surpassed 1,000 points for her career.

Oregon’s Ruthy Hebard finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds. She made her first three shots to set an NCAA men’s and women’s record with 33 consecutiv­e field goals over four games.

Jordin Canada and Monique Billings each scored 26 points for the Bruins (21-6, 13-3). #3 Baylor 93, #6 Texas 87: Kristy Wallace scored 23 points and had seven assists as the Lady Bears (26-1, 16-0) won their eighth consecutiv­e Big 12 championsh­ip by beating the host Longhorns (22-5, 13-3). #20 Duke 79, #9 Florida State 66: Lexie Brown scored 30 points, and the host Blue Devils (21-7, 10-5 ACC) upset the Seminoles (22-5, 10-4). Rebecca Greenwell added 22 points, with three of her six threepoint­ers in the decisive run. Cardinal moves down: Stanford dropped two spots to No. 16 in the AP Top 25 released Monday after losing at Cal on Saturday. LSU, at No. 24, returned to the Top 25 for the first time since Feb. 17, 2014. LSU has won six of its past seven games to move into third in a competitiv­e SEC.

UConn remains the unanimous No. 1 team. The Huskies (26-0) received all 32 first-place votes from a media panel.
