Dodge Challenger SRT Demon

MSRP: $84,390 Dodge’s latest monster muscle car is a mega-power drag-race special, and its name is Demon. Standard Demons come with a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 that cranks out 808 hp, but owners can increase that to 840 hp with the Demon Crate package. So equipped, Dodge claims that the Demon will demolish the quarter-mile in 9.65 seconds at 140 mph. Weight-saving measures have been taken wherever possible, and even passenger seats are optional. The Demon is a rare piece: the U.S. will only get 3000 units.

Dodge Challenger SRT / SRT Hellcat

MSRP: $50,590 The Challenger is a major salvo in the Horsepower Wars, offering muscle-car metal and seriously awesome engines. The 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 makes 485 hp and 475 lb-ft; choose either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic. The aptly named Hellcat has a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 good for 707 hp and 650 lb-ft, with either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic. The automatic is faster, hitting 60 mph in 3.6 seconds, while the manual is more fun and still quick doing 0-60 in 3.9 seconds.

Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 / GT350R

MSRP: $56,745 The Shelby GT350 takes fast and furious to another level. This race-ready pony car is fitted with a 5.2-liter V-8 that makes 526 hp and bloodcurdling exhaust sounds; a sixspeed manual is the sole transmission. Still not satisfied? There’s also the track-tuned GT350R, which accelerates quicker and corners better—thanks in part to its unique carbon-fiber wheels. Regardless of the Shelby you choose, both pose a formidable opponent to the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.

Ford Mustang

MSRP: $26,485 The galloping pony nestled in the grille serves as a reminder that the Mustang is most at home on the open road. Both the coupe and convertible come with your choice of a 310-hp turbo four or a 460-hp V-8; choose from a six-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic transmission. A manual-transmission-only, 475-hp Steve McQueen–inspired Bullitt special edition will join the lineup later in 2018. The rear-wheel-drive chassis is eager to attack corners while enabling a smooth ride when cruising.
