Campus shooting: Two people were injured Friday when gunshots were fired on the campus of Southeastern Louisiana University, school officials said. School spokeswoman Erin Cowser said the incident happened at 3 a.m. near an assembly hall in the town of Hamond. Cowser said the shooting apparently stemmed from a fight involving students and people who aren’t enrolled at the school. Two people were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. No suspects were arrested.

Flooding: High waters that prompted evacuations in the Midwest persisted Friday in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and could last through the weekend in areas that have been swamped from heavy rains and melting snow. The National Weather Service said some Michigan rivers could see record levels in the coming days. In Ohio, water swamped more roadways and basements, and forecasters expect the Ohio River could reach levels not seen since the region’s deadly 1997 floods. Flooding hit Michigan State University, where some roads and athletic fields were covered by water from the Red Cedar River that runs through its East Lansing campus.

Buses burned: A fire tore through a Pennsylvania school bus garage Friday, destroying or damaging more than two dozen buses as tires exploded off their rims, forcing firefighters to back away, fire officials said. Classes in the district were canceled. The fast-moving blaze at a Parkland School District garage in South Whitehall, was reported around 3 a.m. by neighbors who said they also heard explosions. At least 16 buses inside the building were destroyed, and a dozen outside the building were damaged. No injuries were reported.

Gang enforcement: President Trump called Friday on Mexico to block MS-13 gang members from traveling through their country on the way to the U.S. Trump’s tweet came a day after he suggested he may pull Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency out of California to protest “sanctuary” jurisdictions, which the administration says are magnets for immigrants who commit crimes. But Energy Secretary Rick Perry said the threat was merely a negotiating tactic. “The president is a first-rate negotiator,” he told “Fox & Friends,” “and I will suggest to you that that is what is going on.”

Runway mishap: A passenger plane slid off an icy runway Friday in Green Bay, Wis., after it was diverted from Minnesota because of heavy snow. No injuries were reported among the 180 passengers and seven crew members on United Airlines Flight 878. The flight originated in Houston and was headed for Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Apartment building fire: A fire that ravaged an apartment building in Pico Rivera (Los Angeles County) has displaced about 300 residents. More than 200 firefighters responded to the fire Thursday. County Fire Chief Daryl Osby said the blaze affected more than 140 apartments. The American Red Cross set up an emergency shelter at a park.
