TOP SPOTS TO CHILL OUT

-

Golden Gate Bridge: There’s no more iconic way to enjoy the fog than to walk right into it on the bay’s 81-year-old grand dame. Bonus points if you can’t see the International Orange-colored towers above you. Divisadero Street: Divis, the hip strip that separates the old Western Addition from the new NoPa, has a reputation for being the dividing line between the city’s foggy western reaches and its (relatively) warmer east. Take your $6 toast to a parklet and watch as the fog staggers and halts overhead. Angel Island: The most dramatic place to watch the fog roll in may be from Angel Island. Bring a thermos to its peak, Mount Livermore, or relax with a hot cocoa at the harbor as the fog swallows the city and envelops your little island.

Marin Headlands: Atop the Marin headlands, looking south toward San Francisco and the Pacific, you can find yourself in that rarest of situations in the Bay Area: above the fog. From the peaks overlooking the Golden Gate, you can watch the waves of fog roll over the city’s 42 hills.

On the water: Catch a boat east from the Ferry Building and listen to the foghorns as you flee to warmer climes.
