PERMITS

-

Permits are required for overnight camping in some areas (national parks, state parks and wilderness areas). Other areas also require day-use permits, available at trailheads or from ranger stations. Campfire permits are required nearly everywhere outside of developed campgrounds, and can be obtained from ranger stations or at www.preventwildfireca.org/Campfire -Permit. Always check with the local land agency for specific requirements. Wilderness permits and bear canisters are required for overnight stays in Yosemite’s backcountry. Reserve permits online or arrive early for limited next-day permits: www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/ wildpermits.htm. A lottery system determines who gets reservations at High Sierra Camps; apply in September-October for the following year: www.travelyosemite.com/lodging/ high-sierra-camps. Rates start at $151 per night in a shared tent cabin; breakfast and dinner included.
