PushFest a sampler of new and classical

Push Dance hosts its fifth annual festival at Buriel Clay Theatre on Friday-Saturday, April 27-28. The festival, with appearance­s from both company and guest dancers, offers a cross-genre sampling of styles like hip-hop, modern and classical Indian bharatanat­yam dance.

True to the company’s reputation for vivacious and thoughtful pieces, the lineup includes a premiere of new work by Robert Henry Johnson and a work-in-progress choreograp­hed by Artistic Director Raissa Simpson.

PushFest also highlights the company’s youth outreach and education programs, with performanc­es by young dancers including the Push Youth Program, Handful Players, Rising Rhythm Project SF and the Village Dancers.
