Avengers: Infinity War: Want more of the Black Panther, Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Marvel group? No fears. In the latest edition in the franchise, the superheroes seek to stop Thanos from collecting the six Infinity stones that will give him lots of power. The betting line has Avengers as 2-1 favorites.
Ghost Stories: Based on a British stage play by co-directors Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyson, the horror movie is about a professor (Nyson) who goes on a quest and finds a file of three cases of unexplained hauntings.
Godard Mon Amour: Louis Garrel stars as JeanLuc Godard and Stacy Martin plays Anne Wiazemsky, the 17-year-old actress the French director falls in love with during the filming of one of his movies. Director Michel Hazanavicius co-wrote the screenplay with Wiazemsky.
Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami: This documentary follows the life of the Jamaican American singer, songwriter, supermodel, record producer and actress. Get ready to see performances of “Slave to the Rhythm,” “Pull Up to the Bumper” and other songs.
The Judge: Bay Area director Erika Cohn’s documentary is about Kholoud Al-Faqih, the first woman appointed to a Shariah court in the Middle East.
Summer in the Forest: This documentary follows the lives of three men who through the help of Jean Vanier were released from insane asylums in the 1960s and went on to found a still-thriving commune by a forest near Paris.
Zama: The latest from Argentine director Lucretia Martel (whose films also are part of a retrospective at BAMPFA) is based on Antonio Di Benedetto’s 1956 novel about a 17th century Spanish officer.
