John G. Carini was born and raised in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood, and lived in the city for his entire life. He was the son of Joseph Carini (deceased) and his beloved mother, Marie Carini (d. 2005), and older brother to David J. Carini (d. 2013). John graduated from Galileo High School in 1963.

John became a hairdresser in his late teens, and continued his career for over 50 years. He was best known for his exceptional hair coloring and in 1999 and 2000, was named one of the top hair stylists in San Francisco by The Gazette. For most of his career, John worked in salons in Presidio Heights and the Richmond District.

John was an avid reader, devouring Stuart Wood mysteries and celebrity biographies. He had great affection for classic beauties like Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe, and had a treasured collection of books and memorabilia. He was a longtime subscriber to People magazine and especially enjoyed following England’s Royal Family.

John loved animals of all kinds, and made a wonderful home for many felines throughout his life, most recently Lulu and Lucky.

In the last years of his life, John was very thankful for his friends – both local and remote - that provided so much love and support including Cea, Nancy, Less & Maggie, Teri, Andy and Sarah.

Donations in John’s memory may be made to the San Francisco SPCA.
