James Joseph Sullivan, Jr. passed away peacefully on May 1, 2018 at the age of 90, with his wife of 65 years, Jean Sullivan, by his side.

James was born June 17, 1927 in San Francisco to James and Josephine Sullivan. He attended St. Cecilia School, Lowell High School, and San Francisco City College. On August 16, 1952 Jim and Jean were married at Mission San Carlos Borromeo in Carmel, CA.

Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in El Paso, Texas. He retired in 1981 from the San Francisco Police Department after 26 years of service. Jim decided, after a brief retirement, he missed working and started a new career at Brobeck Phleger and Harrison, LLP, in the city he loved.

Jim is survived by his wife Jean of San Rafael, his son’s Mark (Barbara) of Dallas Texas, James (Janet) of Palm Desert, Patrick (Kelly) of Carmichael, CA and daughters Jeannie Platt (Cary) of Plano, Texas, and Maryanne Ralston (Jerry) of Templeton, CA. “Papa Jim” will be missed by his grandchild­ren Mia, August, Joseph and Jeannette Sullivan, Ryan and Emma Platt and James, Lauren and Grace Ralston. He is also survived by his loving sister Marian O’Donnell (Daniel deceased) of Seal Beach, with whom he spoke every day and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim will always be remembered for his smiling Irish eyes, quick wit, warm personalit­y and for being a true gentleman.

The family would like to thank the extraordin­ary staff at the Nazareth House, who helped care for Jim the last 2 1/2 years of his life. He truly appreciate­d each and every one of them.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00am on May 19th, 2018 at the Nazareth House in San Rafael.
