Facebook plans to lease new offices in Burlingame. The development, at Burlingame Point — a site still under construction — spans 767,000 square feet by the bay, according to Mike Moran, executive managing director of Cushman & Wakefield, the broker for the landlord.

“While our headquarters will remain in Menlo Park, Facebook is in discussions to secure office space in Burlingame to support our growing workforce,” the company said in a statement. “In the months ahead, we will continue to work closely with local leaders and city representatives to ensure Facebook’s presence is a benefit to the community.”

Facebook’s workforce has grown 47 percent in the past year to 30,275 employees globally — and it has rapidly expanded throughout the region. In June, Facebook brought its office-space tally in Fremont to more than 1 million square feet with a new lease. A month earlier, it leased a 43-story office tower in San Francisco, making it one of the city’s largest tech tenants. Facebook is also a growing presence in Mountain View and Sunnyvale. Longer term, it has plans to add an enormous number of workers in Menlo Park, its headquarters city.

“We’re very excited that Facebook is considering Burlingame Point as the next cornerstone of their Bay Area footprint,” Moran said.

The prospective Burlingame location puts that Facebook location less than 5 miles from San Francisco International Airport and between the Menlo Park and San Francisco offices.
