The Warriors of 12th-ranked McClymonds-Oakland, two-time defending state champions, warm up before their 26-0 victory over No. 21 Marin Catholic on Friday night in Oakland. Senior K’aun Green threw two touchdown passes for McClymonds, which has only 12 players back from last year’s team.

Quarterback Jackson Pavitt threw for 250 yards and two touchdowns as 11th-ranked Cardinal Newman-Santa Rosa defeated perennial Northern Section power Sutter 24-0 on Friday.

It was the first home game for Cardinal Newman (2-0) since half of its school was destroyed in the Tubbs Fire last fall. Then the most destructive fire in California history, the blaze flattened Santa Rosa neighborhoods and destroyed the homes of several players.

“Getting it done back at home was really nice,” said Pavitt, who completed 19 of 26 passes. “Our offensive line did great, our receivers did great and our team just played well.”

Jake Woods (six catches, 51 yards) caught two touchdown passes and intercepted a pass thrown by Sutter quarterback Cory McIntyre with seven minutes to play.

Cardinal Newman hogged possession throughout, especially in the second half, when the Cardinals ran 37 plays to 15 for Sutter (0-1).

Chauncey Leberthon also caught a touchdown pass and Matt Nelson split the uprights on a 39-yard field goal with 5:55 to play in the third quarter.

Senior quarterback K’aun Green threw two touchdown passes, one to Monte Smith, Jarmar Julien scored on an 11-yard run and senior linebacker Javanz Dornners put the finishing touches on a defensive gem with a scoop-and-score. #18 Menlo-Atherton 28, Bellarmine 0: At San Jose City College, Justin Anderson scored on runs of 30 and 5 yards and threw for a touchdown as the Bears dominated from start to finish in the opener for both teams. Petelo Vatuvei added a 5-yard touchdown run and Joey Olshausen a 25-yard TD catch. #20 Antioch 37, #19 California-San Ramon 27: The return of third-year quarterback Willem Karnthong from a shoulder injury was huge for the visiting Panthers (2-0).
