White Sox manager returns to dugout

-

White Sox manager Rick Renteria returned to the Chicago dugout Friday in Detroit after he missed four games while being tested for the source of his lightheadedness.

“I can tell you right now that I am cleared to go, full tilt,” Renteria said. “I’m going to keep it at that.”

Bench coach Joe McEwing had been managing the White Sox in Renteria’s place.

“Under the circumstances, it’s not the way you want to go about it, but it’s been fun,” McEwing said. “It’s been a lot of fun.” Trout returns: Angels center fielder Mike Trout, who had been sidelined since Aug. 1 because of a wrist injury, was activated from the disabled list and was in Los Angeles’ lineup against the Astros.

The game was the first for Trout since his brother-in-law, Aaron Cox, died last week. Cox, 24, had retired from baseball this month after pitching three seasons in the Angels’ organization.

“Physically, he’s ready to go,” manager Mike Scioscia said. “He wants to get back out there. It will be an emotional burden he and his family will carry. I think he’s definitely ready to come back and play baseball.” Bad news for Hahn: Royals right-hander Jesse Hahn, who has not pitched this season because of an elbow issue, underwent UCL surgery and will be sidelined at least six months.

Kansas City acquired Hahn from the A’s in January. Injury report: Rangers pitcher Bartolo Colon was put on the DL because of a strained lower back . ... Progress report: Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant, on the DL since July 26 because of left shoulder inflammation, hit in the batting cage and could be ready for a minor-league rehab assignment soon. “He felt really good about what he did,” manager Joe Maddon said . ... Red Sox right-hander Steven Wright, out two months because of left knee inflammation, threw live batting practice. “He’ll probably go on a rehab assignment next week and he’ll be with us hopefully in September,” manager Alex Cora said . ...
