Contribute fairly

San Francisco Chronicle Late Edition - - FROM THE COVER -

Regarding “A boon to empty-nesters that foes say is too costly” (Page One, Oct. 12): So older property owners, who have been paying low property taxes for decades under Proposition 13, now want to transfer these benefits if they sell their homes and buy new ones anywhere in California? Don’t these individuals care whether our state’s schools and other public services are adequately funded? If all that matters to these empty-nesters is their own financial well-being, then let them fly away to another state where there is a less dire need for taxpayer-funded services to which all citizens contribute fairly.
