Huntley stands out as Utah routs Arizona

-

Tyler Huntley threw for two touchdowns, ran for another and caught a 58-yard TD pass, leading Utah past visiting Arizona 42-10 on Friday night.

On a play that typified the game, Huntley handed off to Zack Moss, who tossed the football to Britain Covey coming the other direction. Covey, a high school quarterback who is Utah’s leading receiver, threw a perfect spiral to Huntley.

Utah (4-2, 2-2 Pac-12) led 35-0 less than two minutes into the second half.

Chase Hansen sacked Khalil Tate late in the first quarter and the Wildcats’ quarterback was left limping. Jamarye Joiner replaced Tate for two series before giving way to Rhett Rodriguez, who threw for 226 yards for Arizona (3-4, 2-2).

“Running was out of the question and even dropping back and handing it off (was hard),” Arizona coach Kevin Sumlin said about Tate. “I saw a player that could barely move, so we had to make a change.”

Huntley, who completed 14 of 19 passes for 201 yards, connected with Samson Nacua for an 8-yard touchdown that capped a 15-play, 75-yard opening drive.

In addition to 64 yards rushing, Huntley completed his longest pass of the season (68 yards) down the right sideline to Demari Simpkins for the Utes’ third touchdown.

Utah’s had 230 yards rushing to complement 265 yards through the air. Arizona was held to 72 yards on the ground, 130 under its average. #23 South Florida 25, Tulsa 24: Coby Weiss kicked a 22-yard field goal with two seconds left as the Bulls (6-0, 2-0 American Athletic) defeated the host Golden Hurricane (1-5, 0-3). South Florida overcame a 14-point deficit in the final 7:10. San Diego State 21, Air Force 17: Ryan Agnew threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to tight end Parker Houston with 6:10 to go to lift the host Aztecs (5-1, 2-0 Mountain West) past the Falcons (2-4, 0-3).
