Broken leg sidelines Kansas City’s Thomas

-

Kansas City wide receiver DeAnthony Thomas broke a leg during practice and could miss the rest of the season, the latest in a string of injuries to befall the Chiefs.

Team trainer Rick Burkholder said Friday that Thomas was taking part in Thursday’s practice when he got stepped on from behind, fracturing the same leg he broke in a game in December.

“He had what we consider a freak accident,” Burkholder said. “All indications are right now that he won’t need surgery.”

The Chiefs also listed linebacker Justin Houston as doubtful for Sunday night’s game against the Patriots because of a hamstring injury. Free safety Eric Murray has been ruled out because of an ankle injury and offensive lineman Laurent DuvernayTardif is sidelined because of a broken bone in his leg.

Giants not changing QBs: New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur said he is sticking with Eli Manning as his starting quarterback.

Shurmur never hesitated Friday when asked if he was considering a change in the wake of Thursday’s 34-13 loss to the Eagles that dropped the Giants to 1-5.

“We believe in Eli,” Shurmur said.

Alex Tanney, who is with his ninth NFL team, and rookie Kyle Lauletta are the other quarterbacks on New York’s roster.

Dolphins’ QB questionable: Miami quarterback Ryan Tannehill is questionable for Sunday’s game against Chicago because of shoulder injury.

Tannehill was limited in Friday’s workout — the first time he has missed practice time because of the injury. He wasn’t on the injury report last week, but was during the week of Sept. 24.

Brock Osweiler or David Fales would start at quarterback for Miami if Tannehill can’t play.

Injury report: Cleveland wide receiver Derrick Willies broke his collarbone in practice and will miss Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers and likely several more.

Rookie Damion Ratley will likely be active and fill in for Willies as the Browns’ No. 3 receiver behind Jarvis Landry and Antonio Callaway. Running back Duke Johnson, who led the team in receptions last season, can also line up wide or in the slot.

The Falcons will be without defensive tackle Grady Jarrett (sprained ankle) and running back Devonta Freeman (foot) for Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers.

The Jets will be without cornerback Buster Skrine (concussion) and cornerback Trumaine Johnson (quadriceps) is doubtful for their game against the Colts on Sunday.
