Gloria C. (Santini) Barbieri

-

Gloria C. (Santini) Barbieri passed away peacefully on October 10, 2018, in Novato, at the age of 95. She was the second of three daughters born July 27, 1923, in Lincoln, CA, to Regina (Rena) Sbarbaro and Raffele (Ralph) Santini. She attended three of her four high school years in Lincoln before the family relocated to Weed, CA, where Gloria completed her senior year. Her parents had purchased the Savoy Hotel in Weed in 1940, and Gloria and her sisters were often seen helping out in the dining room. On August 15, 1943, she married Louis J. Barbieri, a Chief Petty Officer in the USCG, and they settled in San Francisco for a few years, before putting down roots in Millbrae. While living in Millbrae, Gloria worked many years for Turner Ford in San Bruno. They raised two children, a son, Ralph, who would become a prominent San Francisco radio personality, and a daughter, Annette, who, as an RN, carved out a career for herself in nursing and nursing management. Lou’s dream had always been to retire and live in Sonoma. In 1982, after taking an early retirement, he and Gloria did just that. Sadly, a short three years later and after 42 years of marriage, the dream came to an abrupt end when Lou suffered a massive heart attack and passed away. This became a turning point in Gloria’s life. With her children now adults, she had to navigate life on her own, with her beloved dog, Tina, by her side. She became very independent and strong-willed and offered opinions on almost everything under the sun. She was extremely devoted to her grandchildren and when the youngest one was born, relocated for a year to help her working son take care of his new baby. Gloria left Sonoma a couple of years ago and moved in with her daughter and son-in-law in Novato. She was predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Rena, and by her sisters, Lydia Mazzoni and Roberta (Bobbi) Valla. Gloria is survived by her son, Ralph, and her grandson, Tayte, her daughter, Annette (Dan) Dell’Osso, her grandchildren, Christina (Bob) Corsetti and Daniel Dell’Osso and her two great granddaughters, Gianna and Angelina Corsetti, as well as by various cousins. A Catholic mass was held on Tuesday, October 16, 2018, followed by a private burial at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Colma, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Milo Foundation, a No-Kill, Non-Profit Rescue, Adoption Center and Sanctuary for Domestic Animals, P. O. Box 6625, Albany, CA 94706.
