Biles wins 13th career world gold

-

Simone Biles made history by picking up her record 13th career gold medal at the world gymnastics championships when she cruised to victory in the vault final in Doha, Qatar.

She also won silver on uneven bars, her weakest event, finishing behind Belgium’s Nina Derwael. Still, Biles became the first American woman to earn a world championship medal on all four events. Golf: Peter Uihlein birdied five of the last seven holes for a 5-under-par 66 and a twostroke lead in the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas. He’s at 131 through two rounds. Robert Streb and Whee Kim are tied for second.

Minjee Lee shot an 8-under 64 on Saturday as she grabbed a three-stroke lead over Sakura Koiwai after two rounds of the Japan Open in Shiga. Lee is at 131. Soccer: Jordan DiBiasi scored both goals as the top-ranked Stanford women (16-0-2, 9-0-1 Pac-12) extended their unbeaten streak to 40 games with a 2-0 victory at Cal (5-12-2, 1-9-1). Tennis: Novak Djokovic, who will regain the No. 1 ranking next week, remains on course for a fifth Paris Masters title after beating Marin Cilic 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 to set up a semifinal against Roger Federer.

Federer advanced to their 47th career meeting by beating Kei Nishikori 6-4, 6-4.

Also making the semifinals were Dominic Thiem, who beat Jack Sock 4-6, 6-4, 6-4; and Karen Khachanov, who defeated Alexander Zverev 6-1, 6-2.
