Kentucky rebounds from loss to Duke

Keldon Johnson and Immanuel Quickley each scored 15 points, Nick Richards grabbed 19 rebounds and No. 2 Kentucky rallied in the second half to beat visiting Southern Illinois 71-59 on Friday night.

The Wildcats (1-1) bounced back from Tuesday night’s 118-84 shellackin­g by No. 4 Duke, but had to work hard in the second half to overcome the Salukis (0-1).

Richards’ rebounding provided the biggest lift as Kentucky dominated Southern Illinois 48-19 on the glass. He had as many boards as the Salukis’ combined total, surpassing his previous best of 15 last season against Fort Wayne. Notre Dame rolls in season opener

Arike Ogunbowale scored 30 points as top-ranked Notre Dame opened its national-title defense with a 103-58 victory over Harvard in the season opener for both teams.

Ogunbowale, who hit two buzzer-beaters in the women’s Final Four last spring, made 10 of 21 field-goal attempts and all nine free-throw tries s in 25 minutes.
