‘No guarantee’ Foster plays for Washington

-

Head Coach Jay Gruden said Washington will continue to investigate Rueben Foster’s legal problems amid the outcry from signing the former 49ers linebacker following his domestic-violence arrest.

Gruden added there is “no guarantee” Foster ever plays for Washington.

“We accept, obviously, the questions, but we want to let the process play out and see what happens and get to the bottom of it,” Gruden said Wednesday. “He’s got a lot of work to do, personally, with the team, with the NFL, with himself, before he even thinks about playing football again.”

Foster, 24, was arrested Saturday night at the 49ers’ team hotel in Tampa, Fla., and charged with one count of firstdegree misdemeanor domestic violence. Washington was the only team to put in a claim for Foster after San Francisco released him Monday.

Foster reported to the team’s facility on Wednesday to take a physical but is on the Commissioner Exempt list and cannot practice or attend games.

Gruden also said the organization did not speak to the victim. He did say team officials spoke “a little bit” to Tampa police and would continue to look into Foster’s situation at the same time as the NFL holds its investigation.

Former 49ers safety Eric Reid says he’s being targeted by the NFL because of his pending collusion case after being drug tested five times since signing with the Carolina Panthers on Sept. 27.

Reid says he doesn’t have anything to hide because he hasn’t failed a drug test, but added it needs to be discussed because “it’s like stop-and-frisk — it’s just wrong.”
